Answers to Your Questions About Hino Edge Technology
What is Hino Edge?
Hino Edge is Hino’s third-generation connected vehicle solution. It digitally connects your fleet, your dealer, telematics service providers, and the Hino Ultimate Support Center to maximize your trucks’ uptime, reduce maintenance costs, and improve your return on investment.
Which Hino trucks are equipped with Hino Edge?
All 2022 and newer Hino L-Series and XL-Series trucks come standard with Hino Edge, which is factory-installed. Hino Edge replaced the previous Hino Insight system starting with the 2022 models.
How much does the Hino Edge cost?
Access to the fleet management portal and the Hino Ultimate mobile app is FREE for the first 5 years. Advanced telematics services from a third-party provider (Geotab, Samsara, etc.) are billed separately by that provider, based on the selected plan.
What can I see on the Hino Edge dashboard?
The dashboard displaysthe locations of your trucks, the nearest dealership, and your fleet’s usage: idle time, fuel economy, DEF level, engine hours versus PTO hours versus idle hours, and location history.
With Hino Benchmarking, you can compare your vehicle’s performance to that of similar vehicles used under similar conditions.
How does case management work?
If a fault code appears, you’ll immediately receive an email; simply reply to it to speak with a Hino Ultimate support representative.
In the Case Management tab, powered by Decisiv, you can view:
- Current recalls,
- Maintenance required based on mileage,
- Engine hours or time,
- Track the status of a repair in real time
- Download reports and invoices.
Can I use Hino Edge with Geotab or Samsara?
Yes. Since the equipment is already factory-installed, you select your telematics service provider and the applicable trucks on hinoultimate.com.
The provider then handles the follow-up, and the integration takes place without installing any additional hardware.
The announced partners include Geotab, MiX Telematics, and Samsara, with more to come.
What is the difference between Hino Edge and a third-party telematics device?
Hino Edge is built right into the truck: no hardware to buy or install, direct access to engine data and detailed diagnostics, and a connection to the dealership.
A third-party device offers a broader multi-brand ecosystem but requires the purchase and installation of equipment, and provides generic data via the OBD port. For a mixed fleet, the two are combined: Hino Edge sends its data to your third-party platform.
How do I activate or access Hino Edge?
Log in to hinoultimate.com using your company credentials and VINs, or use the Hino Ultimate mobile app.
Our team can assist you when the truck is delivered to help you create your account and set up alerts.
Does Hino Edge help me stay on track with my PPQ and PPQ Plus maintenance schedules?
Yes. The portal displays maintenance due based on mileage, hours, or time, which makes it easier to stay within the tolerance windows of the PPQ and PPQ Plus programs (2,000 km or ± 15 days). It’s the ideal tool for scheduling your shop visits before they’re due.
What data is shared, and can I opt out?
Location, fuel consumption, usage, and diagnostic data are transmitted in accordance with Hino Canada’s Terms of Use for Connected Vehicles.
You can opt out on the Hino Canada website by providing your VINs; in this case, connected services such as location tracking and fuel consumption monitoring will no longer be available
